Human ears are very sensitive. We can hear the frequencies between the spectrum of 20Hz to 20 kHz. Other than that, ears are also responsible for maintaining the balance of the body. Needless to say, hearing impairment of any kind can lead to a lot of problems other than the inability to hear sounds of certain frequencies.

If you too are suffering from a sound impairment, it can cause a lot of problems like dizziness, nausea and vomiting, ear pain and discomfort, over-sensitivity to certain high-pitched sounds, and selective sensitivity to sounds as low as the sound of breathing and chewing. Certainly, not easy, right? So, in order to make sure that your ears are fine, audiologists recommend getting a hearing evaluation done at trusted clinics like Audiologie Centre Ouest évaluation acouphène.

The evaluation not just helps in ruling out ear problems, it also helps in the detection of problems at early stages so that suitable treatments can be offered as soon as possible. Some of the most prevalent hearing disorders and their treatment options have been listed below. Dive in!

Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a sharp ringing noise that generates inside the ears without any stimulus. It keeps on increasing and becomes so severe that many patients find it impossible to sleep due to the constant humming noise as that of bees.

The patients have to fill a Tinnitus Functional Index form (TFI questionnaire). The score obtained helps audiologists to determine the extent of the problem and suggest a suitable therapy. Zen therapy is usually most effective in treating tinnitus.

Hyperacusis and Misophonia

Hyperacusis, also known as sound intolerance disorder, is severe discomfort that’s caused due to oversensitivity to high-pitched sounds. Misophonia is the severe sensitivity to selective low-pitched sounds like the sound of gulping, chewing, and breathing.

Clearly, if not treated, both these conditions can cause stress, anxiety, and even depression and insomnia. The TFI questionnaire is used to determine the extent of both Hyperacusis and Misophonia.

Once determined, audiologists recommend suitable therapy sessions where the patients are rehabilitated to deal with sounds that they are sensitive to. The ultimate aim is to make patients accustomed to all kinds of sounds so that they can easily carry out their daily chores without getting bothered by any sound their ears might perceive as noise.

The ultimate goal of all hearing therapies is to minimize discomfort, stress and anxiety management, and improve sleep quality. All in all, even if certain ear disorders cannot be cured, they can still be treated so that the patient can lead a carefree life. If you’ve been experiencing any of the symptoms that have been mentioned in the guide above, you must visit a good audiologist as soon as possible.
