It can be difficult to navigate your daily routines when you suffer from osteoarthritis. This debilitating condition causes pain and inflammation in your various body joints, making it hard to function effectively. In severe cases, osteoarthritis can cause a limited range of motion that typically affects your knees, hands, hips, and spine. Fortunately, Lafayette osteoarthritis treatments help combat your condition to ensure you overcome and enjoy an improved quality of life.

However, besides seeking treatment for osteoarthritis, there are effective ways to keep your condition from worsening. Here are five ways to manage your osteoarthritis.

1.Exercise your joints

While osteoarthritis can make moving painful, engaging in low-impact exercise is essential in minimizing arthritis symptoms in the long term. Typically, regular physical activity helps you build muscles and strengthen joints, thus preventing stiffness, relieving stress, and improving your posture. However, it would help if you avoided intense workouts as they might wreak havoc on your existing condition. You can opt for swimming, walking, cycling, or water aerobics. Along with these exercises, you can try routine stretching to help move your joints to their full range of motion and to stave off arthritis pain.

2.Shed extra pounds

Individuals who are overweight are at more risk of developing osteoarthritis as well as worsening their symptoms. Usually, being overweight increases the load put on your joints, which can exacerbate osteoarthritis symptoms. Carrying excess weight mostly hurts your hips, knees, ankles, and feet. Also, the extra fat causes cartilage changes which can delay your healing process. Therefore, if you’re overweight, consider finding ways to shed weight to aid osteoarthritis recovery.

3.Try an anti-inflammatory diet

As you get older, most of your bodily joints are likely inflamed, which can cause osteoarthritis. When your spine or joints become inflamed, you will experience arthritis-related symptoms like stiffness and pain. However, it’s possible to reduce inflammation through dietary planning. An anti-inflammatory diet that includes whole grains, fruits, and vegetables can help reduce inflammation, thus easing osteoarthritis symptoms. Avoid sugary, processed, and fried foods as they contribute to inflammation that aggravates your symptoms.

4.Pay attention to your pain

Though joint pain can occur for several reasons, you should be on the lookout, especially if you’ve suffered from osteoarthritis. Typically, if your pain doesn’t improve even after treatments, it means an underlying issue requires urgent assessment. Also, if your arthritis pain worsens when walking or exercising, you can either rest or seek specialist help. Most osteoarthritis symptoms keep reoccurring, especially because of poor lifestyle habits. Therefore, if you notice unusual pain in your affected joint, don’t overlook the problems; seek medical intervention.

5.Control your blood sugar

When your blood sugar levels rise, your osteoarthritis symptoms will likely worsen. Most importantly, people with diabetes are at more risk of suffering frustrating symptoms of arthritis. Therefore, if you have a history of diabetes, you should check your blood sugar levels often to manage your condition.

Although no one desires to live with osteoarthritis, various risk factors can cause you to suffer from this frustrating condition. However, this doesn’t mean the condition is inevitable, as effective and quality treatment options can help you manage and overcome osteoarthritis.
