You can use the following prevention tips to minimize the likelihood of getting a headache or migraine.

Stay hydrated

Drinking a lot of water and other hydrating fluids can minimize and reduce your risk of getting headaches. If you stay dehydrated for long periods, you might experience headache pain because the cells in your brain start to shrink due to a lack of fluids and water. Drink water whenever you are thirsty and try to take in the recommended volume.

Eat at regular intervals

You can have headaches when your body has low blood sugar levels due to a lack of energy. With low blood sugar, your muscles can tense up, leading to pain. If you get headaches when you are hungry, you need to consume more calories to provide your body with the energy it needs.

Get enough sleep and manage your stress

Resting and getting enough sleep helps your body to restore and re-energize itself. Fatigue and exhaustion can lower your body’s pain threshold, making it easier for you to get tension headaches. Fortunately, better sleeping habits and stress management can greatly reduce headaches occurrence.

Avoid triggers

If you are prone to frequent and severe migraines, you should keep a diary to note your surroundings and triggers. By doing so, you can identify your triggers and avoid them to minimize your likelihood of migraines.

Exercise regularly

If you are susceptible to migraine headaches, try incorporating daily exercise into your routine. Regular exercise can increase endorphins (feel-good) hormones in your bloodstream and help to prevent migraines. You can try aerobic activities such as jogging, swimming, and brisk walking for at least 30 minutes daily.
